you see me with one eye I see you with two

Du siehst mich mit einem Auge, ich seh' dich mit zweien

Interactive Video Installation
Berlin, 2020–2022
Premiered at the 48 Stunden Neukölln Festival in June 2022, this work is a collaboration between Wael Toubaji and Hady Elsahar, staged in the historic Kino Passage on Karl-Marx-Straße, Berlin.
"You see me with one eye, I see you with two" — an old Syrian saying that speaks of mutual respect (and its absence) — becomes the conceptual seed of this poetic intervention in public space. The installation consists of a dual-channel video projection, brought to life by custom interactive software that responds in real time to the movements of people in the space.
Each frame is a moving composition: manually animated graphic sequences that shift, expand, and react to presence, blurring the boundaries between observer and performer. It is a work about being seen, about how we see, and how the urban body and visual code enter into dialogue.
This piece was supported by Statenkunst Fond, and realized as part of a long-form exploration of digital media in public and participatory contexts.
